Your Tour’s Overview

Sitting on the shores of Lake Windermere, Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is a 19th-century former coaching inn that has undergone extensive renovations and extensions to become a luxurious resort.

The contemporary Blue Smoke restaurant -- featuring a 3-metre-long double wood-fired grill at its center -- is just one of the hotel's dining options. There's also the "elegant" (The Daily Telegraph) Windermere Restaurant, with its oak and mirrored paneling. Afternoon tea and other light bites are served in the Atrium and Langdale Lounge, which both have views of the surrounding fells.

Set on a hillside, The Spa at Low Wood Bay has been awarded five bubbles for its "luxury treatments and breathtaking views over Lake Windermere", and features indoor and outdoor infinity pools, two hot tubs, and an outdoor sauna with "the best views of any sauna in the UK" (The Good Spa Guide). Beauty treatments and thermal journeys are just some of the ways you can spoil yourself at this "snazzy" (The Daily Telegraph) spa.

The Health Club facilities are open to all resort guests and include a 50-foot swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room and a gym. The resort won Best Hotel and Spa at the 2019 National Fitness Awards.

A 30-minute walk along the picturesque shores of the lake will bring you to Ambleside -- "a favorite base for hikers" with "plenty of cozy pubs and cafés", according to Lonely Planet. From there, you can take ferries to Bowness and Lakeside piers, visit Stock Ghyll Force waterfall, or try one of The Guardian's top 10 walks in the Lake District from Ambleside to Troutbeck.

Bedrooms are split between the original building, the courtyard to the rear, the leisure center building and the newer glass-and-slate building on the hillside. The courtyard-facing Willow Rooms are decorated with "feature wallpaper and velvet throws" (The Daily Telegraph) and come with bathrobes and slippers. Hazel Lake View Rooms also come with bathrobes and slippers, and have views over Lake Windermere.
